Egypt National Team Coach Hossam Hassan Collapses During Fight Between Wives

Hossam Hassan, the head coach of the Egypt men's national team, collapsed and lost consciousness while attempting to break up a physical fight between his two wives. The incident occurred at a luxury hotel cafe in Marina El Alamein on Egypt's North Coast. The altercation began as a verbal exchange between Hassan's first wife, Howaida Al-Gharbawy, and his second wife, Dina Mostafa, before escalating into a physical brawl involving punches and the throwing of chairs. Security personnel and police eventually intervened to separate the women, and both were reportedly detained. Hassan required medical assistance after the event. Following the incident, it was reported that Hassan officially divorced Al-Gharbawy, with whom he has three children. The couple had previously experienced a brief separation in 2022. Hassan married Mostafa in 2015. The coach is a prominent figure in Egyptian football, having served as the national team's all-time leading scorer. During the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Hassan led Egypt to the Round of 16, where they were eliminated by Argentina in a 3-2 loss. Following that match, Hassan publicly criticized officiating and alleged that external factors influenced the result to keep Argentina and Lionel Messi in the competition.
