- A hatched block means the outlet is affiliated with, or controlled by, a state.
Political lean describes where an outlet sits within the politics of its own country. It is never a position on a single global scale.
Political lean is comparable inside one country and not across them, which is why the bar groups by country first. Publicly funded broadcasters are not marked as state-linked.
The owner of each outlet is listed as a matter of record, not as a judgement about the outlet.
Elena Rybakina defeated Aryna Sabalenka 6-4, 5-7, 6-2 in the US Open final on Saturday to win her first US Open title and her third Grand Slam crown. With this victory, the Russian born Kazakh player ascended to the world number one ranking, ending Sabalenka's 99 week reign at the top. Rybakina's win also snapped Sabalenka's 20 match winning streak at Flushing Meadows and prevented the Belarusian from becoming the first woman since Serena Williams and Chris Evert to win three consecutive US Open titles. Rybakina entered the tournament having dealt with an ankle injury that had previously forced her to retire from the Cincinnati Open. She adds this title to her 2022 Wimbledon win and her Australian Open victory earlier this year. Sabalenka expressed disappointment in the post match press conference, noting the difficulty of controlling emotions while attempting a three peat. During the match and following her defeat, Sabalenka hit a ball into the stands, broke her racket, and cursed at a cameraman. Sabalenka stated that she needed to release her aggression to be able to speak during the trophy ceremony. The match was presented as a contrast in temperaments. Center and center right sources described the matchup as a battle between Rybakina's icy composure and Sabalenka's volcanic emotions. Center left sources emphasized the stark difference in their public personas, noting Rybakina's modesty and Sabalenka's loud and shrill presence. Rybakina received her trophy from Maria Sharapova.
