The European Union has launched a process to fund seven computing hubs, called AI gigafactories, to train artificial intelligence models in Europe. This initiative fulfills a promise made by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen at an AI summit last year to help the region catch up in the race on AI.
The plan involves building four smaller data centers with 25,000 to 75,000 specialized AI chips each and three larger ones with 40,000 to 100,000 chips each.
