Family and Friends Testify at Trial for Murder of Former Puma Federico Martín Aramburu

The trial for the murder of former Argentine rugby player Federico Martín Aramburu continued in Paris with testimonies from his family, friends, and former teammates. During the sixth day of proceedings, witnesses described the 42 year old victim as a generous, respectful, and dynamic individual who avoided conflict and sought to calm violent situations. His mother, Cecilia Aramburu, testified as a civil party, stating that the crime could have been avoided and describing the defendants as criminals who lack humanity. She recounted the moment she learned of her son's death on March 19, 2022, and noted that she required medication to attend the funeral.

Other testimonies highlighted the psychological toll on Aramburu's family. His wife, María, has received psychological care for anxiety and inability to eat following the event. Friends and former teammates, including Thomas Lievremont and Matías Newton, spoke of Aramburu's ability to make others feel important and loved. Newton, a former teammate at CASI, expressed optimism that justice would be served, noting that evidence suggests the killing was an execution. Gonzalo Quesada, the current coach of the Italian national team and a close friend of the victim, also provided emotional testimony before the court.
