Federal Police Reveal Luxury Trips and Payments Funded by Former Banker Daniel Vorcaro

The Brazilian Federal Police have detailed a series of luxury trips and financial transfers funded by former banker Daniel Vorcaro, according to reports following a Supreme Court decision to lift the secrecy of the investigations. The findings indicate that Vorcaro provided high end travel and lodging for several individuals, including Senator Ciro Nogueira and former Central Bank servants. For Senator Nogueira, the police identified a May 2024 trip to New York featuring a royal suite at the Park Hyatt New York costing 47,700 US dollars, as well as a January 2025 trip to the French Alps where Vorcaro paid for luxury chalet lodging, equipment, and dining for the senator and his wife. Total expenses for the Alps trip reached approximately 1.8 million reais. Additionally, the investigation found that Vorcaro funded trips to Disney and Paris for former Central Bank officials Belline Santana and Paulo Sergio Souza. The police allege these benefits were given in exchange for confidential information and strategic guidance regarding bank supervisions. The investigation further identifies millions of reais in payments disguised as fake contracts, including a 2 million reais payment to Santana for a nonexistent study. The defenses of the accused deny any wrongdoing, stating that actions were within legal norms or strictly institutional.
