The Brazilian Federal Police seized 24 firearms and thousands of rounds of ammunition during the arrest of Paulo Henrique Costa, the former president of the Banco de Brasília (BRB), on April 16. The seized arsenal included 16 pistols, five rifles, two shotguns, and one revolver from brands such as Glock, Taurus, Colt, Sig Sauer, and Imbel, along with 58 magazines and three bags of ammunition. The weapons were found in a high luxury apartment in Brasília. Both the Federal Police and Costa's defense confirmed that he holds a CAC registration as a collector, shooter, and hunter.
Costa is being investigated for passive corruption and money laundering related to the BRB's attempted purchase of Banco Master and the acquisition of portfolios offered by that bank. Investigations suggest Costa received bribes in the form of six properties in São Paulo and Brasília valued at 146.5 million reais. One source reports that the overall fraud between Banco Master and BRB totaled approximately 17 billion reais.
Information regarding the seizure became public after Supreme Court Minister André Mendonça lifted the secrecy of processes involving Banco Master and its owner, Daniel Vorcaro. The Federal Police noted that the volume of weaponry initially posed a risk to the physical integrity of the officers during the operation.
