Fiesp Organizes Petition for STF Plenary to Address Institutional Crisis

The Federation of Industries of the State of São Paulo (Fiesp) has begun organizing a petition calling for the plenary of the Supreme Federal Court (STF) to discuss an institutional crisis described as an unprecedented test of integrity for the Republic. The movement is supported by the Commercial Association of São Paulo (ACSP), which reports over one thousand signatures from commercial associations and federations, including Abinee and Sindibrinquedos. The manifesto is expected to be released between September 8 and 10; organizers intentionally avoided the September 7 holiday to prevent accusations of political opportunism during an election period.

The crisis stems from the Banco Master scandal, specifically the revelation of messages between former banker Daniel Vorcaro and STF Minister Alexandre de Moraes, as well as a request by Prosecutor General Paulo Gonet to annul a Federal Police report. Fiesp previously signaled its concern in January by displaying the Brazilian flag on its facade, a gesture associated with past protests during the Lava Jato investigations and the impeachment of Dilma Rousseff.

Some potential signatories have expressed concern over the possible politicization of Fiesp. The organization has a history of internal conflict regarding political alignment, including a 2022 crisis involving former president Josué Gomes da Silva and accusations of ties to the PT. Current leadership under Skaf has expanded the entity's scope to include public security and has appointed former ministers from the Jair Bolsonaro government to superior councils, though the organization denies any political bias.
