Clashes between pro-government Yemeni forces and pro-Iranian Houthi rebels in southwest Yemen have resulted in more than 300 deaths in recent days and displaced thousands of civilians. The fighting is centered on the control of the Bab al-Mandeb Strait, a critical waterway for Saudi oil exports. Government forces have launched air strikes on Houthi positions in al-Barah, the western outskirts of Marib, and the al-Jawf governorate.
