A fire broke out Tuesday afternoon in a scrubland area of the Collserola natural park near the Canyelles neighborhood in Barcelona. The blaze prompted the city council to order the preventive confinement of approximately 14,000 residents in the Torre Baró and Ciutat Meridiana neighborhoods. Protecció Civil issued an Es-alert advising residents to stay indoors and close all doors and windows. The emergency line 112 received over 1,000 calls reporting the fire, which was visible from the upper areas of the city.
Firefighters from both the city of Barcelona and the Generalitat are working to extinguish the flames. The response includes five aerial assets, three water vehicles, and specialized GRAF personnel focusing on the right flank of the fire. Authorities closed several roads, including the routes from Horta to Collserola, the Cemetery road, and the Alta de Roquetes. One source reported the fire affected approximately eight hectares and was advancing toward Sant Cugat del Vallès and Cerdanyola del Vallès.
This is the second fire in the Collserola range this summer. A previous fire on August 14 affected ten hectares in the Sant Pere Màrtir area and led to the arrest of a man suspected of arson.
