Flávio Bolsonaro Campaigns in Alagoas with Infrastructure and Health Promises

Flávio Bolsonaro, the PL candidate for president, held a campaign event and motorcade in Arapiraca, Alagoas, on Wednesday. Accompanied by his running mate, Deputy Alfredo Gaspar, Bolsonaro addressed supporters in the second most populous city in the state. During the event, he proposed the construction of the Trem do Nordeste, a 1,400 km railway connecting the capitals of the Northeast region, and advocated for increased investments in regional agriculture. Bolsonaro also pledged to modernize the SUS health system by implementing a unified electronic medical record to streamline appointment scheduling and reduce queues.

While campaigning, Bolsonaro criticized the PT government and claimed that former President Jair Bolsonaro was responsible for bringing water to the region via the São Francisco river transposition. He further stated his intention to appoint Supreme Court justices who oppose abortion and drugs. The event was attended by several politicians, including Deputy Marx Beltrão and State Deputy Cabo Bebeto, though candidates João Henrique Caldas and Arthur Lira were absent.

Polling data shows a mixed landscape for the candidate. A Quaest poll indicates a technical tie between Bolsonaro and Senator Renan Filho in Alagoas. However, a Datafolha poll shows Lula leading the Northeast region with 53 percent of intentions to vote compared to 25 percent for Bolsonaro. The PL campaign aims to narrow this gap in a potential second round by leveraging the support of party governors.
