Former Chief of Staff Marcola Requests Departure from Lula Campaign

Marco Aurélio Santana Ribeiro, known as Marcola and the former chief of staff for President Lula, has requested to leave the president's campaign team. The request follows reports that the Federal Police identified a financial transaction between Marcola and businesswoman Roberta Luchsinger. Marcola stated that he took a personal loan of 249,000 reais from Luchsinger and has since paid the debt. Luchsinger is described as a friend of the president's son, Fábio Luís Lula da Silva, and is under investigation as part of Operação Sem Desconto.

Marcola released a statement asserting that his public actions have always been guided by ethics and transparency. He noted that the loan was a strictly private matter and stated that his bank and tax records are available to the justice system. While some allies initially believed he might remain on the team, reports indicate he has communicated his decision to President Lula and PT president Edinho Silva.
