Former JPMorgan Executive Jes Staley Admits to Sharing Confidential Bank Information with Jeffrey Epstein

Former JPMorgan Chase executive Jes Staley admitted in a House Oversight Committee transcript that he repeatedly shared confidential and market sensitive bank information with Jeffrey Epstein. According to the transcript released Wednesday, Staley divulged details regarding the bank's communications with the Federal Reserve during the 2008 financial crisis, pending deals, and a figure of 44 billion dollars in private bank inflows over two weeks. Staley defended these actions by stating he believed he had the authority to share the information when appropriate. He also testified that he warned Epstein about the bank's concerns regarding his large cash withdrawals and his designation as a high risk client.

Staley, who previously led Barclays from 2015 until 2021, maintained that while he had a close professional relationship with Epstein, he was unaware of the financier's crimes. The transcript further reveals that Staley signed documents related to the Epstein trust in 2014 and a trust amendment in 2015, though he later declined to serve as a trustee because he did not want to be associated with the estate.

During the interview, the committee questioned Staley about allegations of sexual misconduct. A committee staffer stated there was credible information that Staley had sexually assaulted multiple women connected to Epstein. Staley denied having any sexual encounter with a woman referenced in emails as Snow White. However, a center right outlet reported that Staley admitted to having consensual sex with one of Epstein's assistants. JPMorgan declined to comment on the matter.
