Former Pakistan Coach Jason Gillespie Criticizes Management Following Squad Overhaul

Former Pakistan head coach Jason Gillespie has criticized the team's management and chief selector Aaqib Javed following a series of abrupt personnel changes during Pakistan's tour of England. The management replaced head coach Sarfaraz Ahmed and members of his staff, including pace-bowling chief Umar Gul, after the team lost the first two Tests of the three match series. Additionally, seven players were sent home, including Salman Ali Agha, who had captained the side in the first Test. Mike Hesson and Ashley Noffke have taken charge for the remainder of the tour.

Gillespie stated that the players appear to be playing with fear and described the lack of a selection strategy as disrespectful. He specifically noted that some sacked players learned of their dismissal through the media, family, and friends. Gillespie compared the frequency of management's changes in mind to changing pants daily. He argued that consistency on the field requires consistency from the board, selection, and coaching levels.

In response to claims by Aaqib Javed that previous coaching staffs were responsible for the team's current struggles, Gillespie told the Australian newspaper that Javed needs to look in the mirror. He pointed out that Javed has been chairman of selectors for two years, while Gillespie is no longer with the team. Other former figures, including Mickey Arthur, Shahid Afridi, and Shoaib Malik, have also expressed bewilderment or called the situation ridiculous. The final Test of the series is scheduled to begin at Edgbaston on September 9.
