Former PE Teacher Bronwen James Convicted of Sexually Abusing Pupils

Bronwen James, a 30 year old former PE teacher from Chippenham, Wiltshire, has been found guilty of sexual activity with a 16 year old boy. The conviction followed a trial at Winchester Crown Court where a jury found James guilty on three counts of sexual activity with a child by a person in a position of trust. The jury acquitted her of a fourth charge. James had previously admitted to nine sexual offences against two teenage girls who attended Bitterne Park School in Southampton and Hardenhuish School in Chippenham.

During the trial, prosecutors stated that James entered into a flirty relationship with the boy, which included communicating via Snapchat. The court heard that the pair had sex at her house several times. The victim testified that he initially thought the relationship was a dream but later realized it was wrong. Evidence presented included text messages where the boy was referred to as number 8, suggesting he was the eighth man James had slept with. James denied the charges and alleged that the boy fabricated the claims to look cool.

James has been ordered to surrender her passport and will be monitored with an electronic tag until she is taken to prison for sentencing. Senior crown prosecutor Bethany Adams described the case as a sustained pattern of predatory behaviour. A spokesperson for the NSPCC added that James exploited a position of trust to groom and abuse students.
