Four people have been arrested on suspicion of murder following the death of a three month old baby girl who was camping with her family in Staffordshire. Emergency services were called to reports of a child in cardiac arrest in woodland off Strawberry Lane, near Cheslyn Hay and Great Wyrley, at approximately 8:45 am on Saturday. Despite the efforts of paramedics and an air ambulance, the girl was pronounced dead at the scene.
Staffordshire Police arrested two men and two women at the scene. The suspects include a 42 year old man and a 30 year old woman from south Staffordshire, a 20 year old woman from Wolverhampton, and an 18 year old man from Walsall. All four individuals have since been released on bail while inquiries continue.
Detective Inspector Josh Lee of the child protection team stated that officers are working around the clock to gather evidence and are keeping an open mind regarding the circumstances of the death. He noted that the event is being treated as an isolated incident and urged the public to avoid sharing speculative claims online. Local officials and community leaders, including Councillor Robert Duncan and MP Sir Gavin Williamson, have expressed their distress and called for privacy for the family.
