- A hatched block means the outlet is affiliated with, or controlled by, a state.
Political lean describes where an outlet sits within the politics of its own country. It is never a position on a single global scale.
Political lean is comparable inside one country and not across them, which is why the bar groups by country first. Publicly funded broadcasters are not marked as state-linked.
The owner of each outlet is listed as a matter of record, not as a judgement about the outlet.
France experienced its hottest summer ever recorded since measurements began in 1900, according to Minister for Ecological Transition Monique Barbut. The summer saw an average 24 hour temperature of 24.0 degrees Celsius, which is 3.6 degrees above normal and exceeds previous records from 2003 and 2022. Météo France reported an unprecedented number of heatwave days, with one source citing 53 days and another noting 63 days of extreme heat since May. This period was marked by three distinct heatwaves and a significant increase in days where temperatures exceeded 40 degrees Celsius.
The extreme weather caused severe disruptions across the country. In the Champagne region, the grape harvest began as early as August 6, which is between three weeks and one month ahead of the usual schedule. Producers reported that this shift created logistical challenges because many seasonal workers were still on vacation. Additionally, extreme wildfires devastated parts of the Gironde, burning six times more surface area than the average of the last twenty years by the end of August.
In response to these events, Minister Barbut stated that the government must focus on adaptation and the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu has requested new measures to accelerate the national climate change adaptation plan, with a funding plan expected by the end of September. Proposed immediate actions include installing shutters and air circulators in schools and improving firefighter access to forests.
