- A hatched block means the outlet is affiliated with, or controlled by, a state.
Political lean describes where an outlet sits within the politics of its own country. It is never a position on a single global scale.
Political lean is comparable inside one country and not across them, which is why the bar groups by country first. Publicly funded broadcasters are not marked as state-linked.
The owner of each outlet is listed as a matter of record, not as a judgement about the outlet.
Paris prosecutor Laure Beccuau announced on Thursday that French authorities have identified several potential recruiters as part of an ongoing human trafficking investigation into the network of US sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. The investigation is pursuing leads in New York, Saint Tropez, and Cannes. Beccuau described the Epstein network as labyrinthine, stating that investigators must pull dozens of threads to unravel it.
The announcement follows the death of Daniel Siad in July. Siad was a modeling scout accused of helping Epstein traffic women and had not been questioned before his death. Beccuau noted that 26 victims have been identified, including 13 who had not appeared in previous cases. Eight of these victims still need to be questioned, with some residing abroad.
The probe has also touched upon other figures in the modeling industry. Jean Luc Brunel, a modeling agent and associate of Epstein, died in prison in 2022. Gérald Marie, the former European head of the Elite modeling agency, previously had an investigation into sexual assault and rape dropped due to the statute of limitations. However, several women have filed new complaints against Marie following the release of recent Epstein files. Marie has denied any wrongdoing, stating he met Epstein only once and has never raped anyone.
While both reports cover the legal updates, they differ in their focus. The center leaning report focuses on the procedural updates of the investigation and the history of the suspects. The center left leaning report emphasizes the frustration of the survivors, highlighting a lawsuit filed by former model Ebba P. Karlsson against the French state for gross negligence and the perceived slowness of the justice system.
