Former pop star Gary Glitter, whose real name is Paul Gadd, has pleaded not guilty to eight allegations of sexual abuse against a girl when she was aged between eight and 11. The 82 year old appeared via video link from prison at Southwark Crown Court on Wednesday to enter his pleas. He denies four charges of indecent assault, two counts of sexual intercourse with a girl under the age of 13, and two counts of indecency with a child under the age of 13.
The charges relate to alleged offences occurring between March 12, 1978, and December 31, 1981, in Kensington and Chelsea, west London. It is alleged that Gadd gave the girl chocolate and invited her to his home, where he caused her to touch his genitals and engaged in unlawful sexual intercourse. During the hearing, Gadd stated he was absolutely not guilty to two of the charges and repeated not guilty to the remaining six.
Judge Tony Baumgartner adjourned the case for a three week trial scheduled to begin on November 22, 2027. The Metropolitan Police reported that the allegations were first reported on January 9, 2025, and Gadd was interviewed on July 22 of last year. Glitter was one of the most successful pop stars of the 1970s.
