German Chancellor Warns of Consequences Following Hybrid Drone Attacks at Leipzig Airport

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has threatened that the perpetrators of hybrid attacks will pay, following a series of drone incidents at Leipzig/Halle Airport. Speaking at a cabinet retreat at Schloss Neuhardenberg, Merz stated that Germany has become a target for hybrid attackers who are increasingly willing to risk severe property damage, injuries, and deaths. The incidents began on August 4, when a drone carrying explosives was discovered and defused near Ukrainian cargo planes. The airport serves as a hub for military aid shipments to Ukraine. Investigators also found approximately 50 grams of hexogen, a military explosive, near the airport grounds.

While the German government has not officially named a culprit, U.S. intelligence believes the explosives laden drone belonged to Moscow, according to the Wall Street Journal.
