Germán Font Elected Mayor of Marcos Juárez, Ending Decades of Non Peronist Rule

Germán Font has been elected mayor of Marcos Juárez, Córdoba, winning 46.09% of the vote. This victory marks the first time the Peronist movement has won the mayoralty in the city since 1973. Font, representing the Generación Marcos Juárez party, defeated former mayor Pedro Dellarossa, who received 19.99% of the vote. Gerardo Pasquali of Marcos Juárez Despierta followed in third place with 17.31%.

Font is an agricultural producer and an agronomic engineer who graduated from the National University of Rosario. His background includes leadership roles in rural organizations, such as serving as the national director of youth for the Federación Agraria Argentina. He also held several government positions in Córdoba starting in 2018, including director general of Territorial Development and secretary of Coordination and Productive Development.

Marcos Juárez is a critical agricultural hub in the pampa húmeda region, known for high yields of soy and corn. The city is also historically significant as the 2014 birthplace of the Cambiemos political coalition. Both reports highlight the irony of a Peronist victory in a location previously seen as a symbol of anti Peronist sentiment.

Along with Font, Jorge Brunori was elected as a councilman. Brunori is a veterinarian and a recognized expert in porcine production who spent 41 years as a researcher and extensionist at the National Agricultural Technology Institute (INTA) in Marcos Juárez.

Both center right sources emphasize Font's professional trajectory in the agricultural sector. One source frames the victory as a symbolic shift where a leader from the field enters politics, while the other frames it as a political upset in a region where Kirchnerism has historically faced significant rejection.
