- A hatched block means the outlet is affiliated with, or controlled by, a state.
Political lean describes where an outlet sits within the politics of its own country. It is never a position on a single global scale.
Political lean is comparable inside one country and not across them, which is why the bar groups by country first. Publicly funded broadcasters are not marked as state-linked.
The owner of each outlet is listed as a matter of record, not as a judgement about the outlet.
German police have arrested a 48 year old man, identified as Daniel V. on suspicion of sabotaging several electrical substations across the country. The suspect was detained near the Weisweiler power plant outside Aachen after a traffic patrol stopped him to check his documents. Officers reportedly found explosive devices on his person and bombs in a nearby tent. Police also discovered explosives during a search of his apartment in Gevelsberg.
The arrest followed a dayslong search across Europe. The investigation was triggered by letters sent to German news outlets in which the author claimed responsibility for the attacks, stating that generating electricity from fossil fuels is a crime. The suspect is linked to sabotage at substations in Jänschwalde, Bergheim, and Dormagen.
Government officials have offered differing views on the motive. Federal Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt described the attacks as likely acts of climate terrorism by a lone perpetrator. Conversely, Saxony interior minister Armin Schuster noted that the motive remained unclear and suggested the suspect might have acted on orders. Authorities had previously considered the possibility of involvement by foreign powers, citing a separate incident of sabotage at Leipzig Airport attributed to Russian agents.
