Giulia Presutti Steps Down as Proposed Host of Rai's Report Amid Editorial Conflict

Giulia Presutti has decided to step aside from her role as a designated co-host of the Rai3 investigative program Report. In an email to Paolo Corsini, the director of Rai's Approfondimento, Presutti stated that her decision was made in the hope of helping the program avoid becoming bogged down in small discussions. This development follows a period of intense tension between the Rai management and the program's editorial staff over the appointment of Presutti and Daniele Piervincenzi as hosts to replace Sigfrido Ranucci.

The conflict reached a peak during a meeting between Corsini and the editorial staff. Reports indicate that Presutti and Piervincenzi were asked to wait outside and were not permitted to confront their colleagues during the session. The editorial staff, including external reporters, argued that the hosts represent the program to the public and must be figures who guarantee the identity and independence of the show. Some reporters had previously threatened a mass resignation if the new appointments were not withdrawn.

While the center-leaning coverage emphasizes the internal struggle for the program's identity and the legal threats from Presutti's lawyer regarding the lack of factual reasons for her removal, center-right coverage highlights the political dimensions of the dispute. This includes claims from M5S members that the appointments were favored by the Fratelli d'Italia party, as well as a counter-attack by the Unirai union. The union defended Presutti against accusations of producing a fake report and questioned the professional credentials of reporter Giulia Innocenzi, who is not registered with the Order of Journalists.

Director Paolo Corsini has sought a solution to ensure the program can begin its next season on November 8. He previously proposed that the program be managed by head authors, a suggestion that was rejected by the staff. Following Presutti's withdrawal, reporters have stated that a channel of communication with the company has been opened.
