Global investment in artificial intelligence infrastructure is reaching unprecedented levels, with some estimates placing this year's spending near 1.5 trillion dollars. In the United States, a small group of tech giants including Microsoft, Amazon, Alphabet, and Meta have allocated approximately 745 billion dollars for AI infrastructure. This spending surge occurs despite a decline in free cash flow for these companies to its lowest level in a decade.

China is pursuing a different strategic path characterized by state led industrial policy and massive government subsidies. The Chinese government plans to invest 295 billion dollars into a national network of data centers. Chinese startups such as Deepseek and Moonshot AI have developed AI models that are nearly as powerful as their US counterparts but were created with significantly less capital and are offered at lower costs.
