GTA VI Marketing Campaign Begins Amidst Gameplay Leaks

Rockstar Games and Take Two will launch a marketing event titled Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look on August 27. The preview will air exclusively on Netflix before becoming available on YouTube and the official Rockstar website six hours later. The event is expected to showcase gameplay, the open world of Vice City in the state of Leonida, and the protagonists Jason and Lucia. The game is scheduled for release on November 19 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The standard edition will cost 79.99 euros or 93.32 dollars, while the digital only Ultimate Edition will cost 99.99 euros or 116.66 dollars. Physical copies of the standard edition will contain a download code rather than a disc.

Recent leaks of gameplay videos and maps have preceded the official preview. Rockstar Games has actively sought the removal of these materials. A group calling itself CyberLeek claims responsibility for the leaks, stating in a manifesto that they are fighting against publishers who sell unfinished games or use hostile consumer practices. The group has included cryptocurrency links in the leaked content to fund their infrastructure. While the center leaning source frames this as a conflict between a group claiming to protect players and the publishers, the center right leaning source frames the leaks as potentially fraudulent activities designed to promote digital assets.
