Hanwha Ocean Co. a South Korean shipbuilder, has secured a contract worth 680 billion won, or approximately 505.17 million US dollars, to build one frigate for the Royal Thai Navy. According to Thai media reports and industry officials, the procurement cost includes value added tax, other applicable taxes, transport, and all associated expenses. Industry officials noted that the total value of the contract could expand to around 4 trillion won if the company wins follow up orders. This follows a previous project in 2013 where Hanwha Ocean secured a contract to deliver a 3,600 ton frigate to Thailand, which was completed in 2018.
