A significant heat wave is beginning this Saturday and is expected to last until Thursday, June 20. This event, identified as the third heat wave of 2026, will bring temperatures at least 5 degrees Celsius above average to parts of the Center West, Southeast, North, and South regions. The highest temperatures are expected in Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul, Goiás, and Tocantins, where thermometers could reach between 40 and 42 degrees Celsius. Low humidity levels between 12 percent and 20 percent are also forecast for these areas, increasing the risk of respiratory issues and wildfires.
Simultaneously, the South region is facing severe weather alerts. The National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet) has issued high danger alerts for accumulated rain and storms across Paraná, Santa Catarina, and Rio Grande do Sul. In Santa Catarina, rainfall may exceed 100 millimeters in some coastal areas. In Rio Grande do Sul, forecasts include hail, wind gusts up to 80 kilometers per hour, and accumulated rainfall reaching 70 millimeters. These unstable conditions are expected to persist through Sunday, with a new cold front organizing over Uruguay by Monday.
Other regions will experience mixed conditions. The Northeast will see predominantly sunny weather and dry air in the interior, while the North will see high temperatures and strong rain showers concentrated in Amazonas and Roraima.
