Joshua Wong, a prominent pro democracy activist in Hong Kong, pleaded guilty on Wednesday to conspiracy to collude with foreign forces to endanger national security. The charge falls under the Beijing imposed National Security Law of 2020. Prosecutors alleged that Wong worked with self exiled activist Nathan Law and others to lobby foreign governments, including the United States and Great Britain, to impose sanctions or blockades on Hong Kong and China. Wong confirmed he agreed with the details of the prosecution's case. The offense carries a potential sentence ranging from three to ten years, or life imprisonment if the court deems the acts to be of a grave nature. A guilty plea typically results in a reduced sentence. Wong is already serving a prison term of four years and eight months for a separate national security case involving an unofficial political primary. He had been expected to be released in early 2027 before this latest charge. Sentencing for the collusion case has been adjourned to a later date.
