House Speaker Mike Johnson expressed his support on Sunday for Donald Trump's proposal to provide 5,000 dollars to every adult in the United States if Republicans win the midterm elections. During an interview with NBC's 'Meet the Press', Johnson committed that Congress would work to find a consensus on the plan. The proposal was first introduced by Trump last Wednesday at the Republican Convention in Dallas, where he described the payment as a dividend for adults if the party wins the legislative elections on November 3.

Johnson acknowledged that the plan would require Congressional approval. According to analysis from the U.S. press, the cost of sending checks to more than 240 million adult citizens would exceed 1.2 trillion dollars. In a subsequent interview with CNN, Johnson called Trump a great generator of ideas and described the proposal as creative, though he noted that the details would still need to be resolved. He stated that the core message was that voters must keep Republicans in charge if they want more money in their pockets. The current composition of Congress includes 220 Republicans and 215 Democrats.
