- A hatched block means the outlet is affiliated with, or controlled by, a state.
Political lean describes where an outlet sits within the politics of its own country. It is never a position on a single global scale.
Political lean is comparable inside one country and not across them, which is why the bar groups by country first. Publicly funded broadcasters are not marked as state-linked.
The owner of each outlet is listed as a matter of record, not as a judgement about the outlet.
Every outlet covering this story shares the same political lean; read with that in mind.
Newly promoted Hull City defeated Manchester United 2-0 on Saturday in their first Premier League match following a nine year absence from the top flight. Semi Ajayi scored in the 17th minute and Nobel Mendy added a second goal in the 38th minute. This result marks the first time in history that Manchester United has lost their opening day match to a newly promoted side under manager Michael Carrick.
Semi Ajayi started at centre back and helped maintain a clean sheet before being substituted in the 64th minute. The victory was considered a major shock as Hull was widely expected to struggle against the decorated club. Other Nigerian players had a mixed start to the season. Ola Aina started for Nottingham Forest in a 1-0 home loss to Leeds United, while Frank Onyeka and Taiwo Awoniyi featured in Coventry City's 3-0 defeat to Arsenal.
