Humanoid Robots Break Speed Records at World Humanoid Robot Games in China

A humanoid robot recorded a 100 meter sprint time of 8.64 seconds at the World Humanoid Robot Games in Beijing, surpassing the human world record set by Usain Bolt. The event, which concluded on August 26, featured more than 600 teams and over 2,000 robots from China and 15 other countries. Other notable performances included the Tiangong Ultra, which ran the 100 meter dash in 8.86 seconds and won the long jump with a distance of 7.97 meters, and a robot named Lightning from Honor, which finished the sprint in 9.47 seconds.

Beyond athletic feats, the games included competitions in soccer, weightlifting, and ping pong. Some events focused on practical deployment, such as plugging cables into sockets and disposing of garbage in a mock bedroom. Experts noted that while hardware and simulation algorithms have enabled high speed movement, fine motor skills and object manipulation remain significant challenges in robotics.
