A Hungarian defense forces Gripen fighter jet crashed near Szolnok on Monday morning shortly after 10:00. Prime Minister Magyar announced on Facebook that the pilot successfully ejected and that there were no injuries or damage to civilian infrastructure. The pilot was transported to a hospital in Kecskemét via rescue helicopter for observation, though the Mayor of Szolnok, Mihály Györfi, stated the pilot only sustained light injuries.
Defense Minister Romulus Ruszin Szendi stated that the aircraft crashed at the Szolnok military base. He noted that the pilot took all necessary actions to ensure the plane landed on military territory. The Mayor of Szolnok suggested the aircraft was likely on a training exercise, as Gripens are typically based in Kecskemét.
