  • A hatched block means the outlet is affiliated with, or controlled by, a state.

Political lean describes where an outlet sits within the politics of its own country. It is never a position on a single global scale.

Political lean is comparable inside one country and not across them, which is why the bar groups by country first. Publicly funded broadcasters are not marked as state-linked.

The owner of each outlet is listed as a matter of record, not as a judgement about the outlet.

India's gross domestic product grew by 7.8 percent in the April to June quarter, surpassing the Reserve Bank of India's forecast of 7 percent. According to the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation, the manufacturing sector grew by 9.2 percent and the services sector grew by 10 percent. Prime Minister Narendra Modi described the growth as a herculean feat achieved despite supply chain issues and oil price shocks. Following the surprise Q1 figures, economists have raised growth forecasts for FY27 beyond 7 percent.

While center leaning coverage focused on the positive economic forecasts and the surprise nature of the growth, left leaning coverage highlighted criticisms from the Congress party. Congress leader Jairam Ramesh claimed the numbers present a greatly distorted picture of the economy, arguing that they fail to reflect depressed private investment sentiment and weak consumer confidence. Ramesh and party colleague Pawan Khera further asserted that the growth does not translate to the public, citing high unemployment among educated youth and rising prices for essential goods.

How each side framed it

Left
The coverage emphasized political criticism and argued that the GDP figures mask underlying issues like unemployment and wealth inequality.
Centre
The coverage focused on the positive growth figures and the subsequent upward revision of future economic forecasts.
