Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Dinesh Trivedi has expressed optimism that Prime Minister Tarique Rahman should visit India much sooner. Speaking at a dinner in Dhaka hosted by Masud Jamil Khan, Ireland's honorary consul, Trivedi stated that direct engagement between the leaders of the two countries can help resolve bilateral issues. He described both Tarique Rahman and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi as people's persons and suggested that their meeting could sort out outstanding problems.
Trivedi acknowledged that Bangladesh and India are sovereign states with their own challenges, differences, and disagreements, but he stressed that these could be addressed through dialogue and mutual respect. He previously described his first meeting with Tarique Rahman as fruitful and confirmed that India's invitation for the prime minister to visit remains in place.
