Israeli Settlers Attack NBC Crew and Palestinians in West Bank Amid Policy Shifts

Masked Israeli settlers attacked an NBC news crew and a Palestinian woman, Aida Ahmed Abdullah, in the West Bank village of Jalud on Saturday. Video footage shows men in dark clothing emerging from a vehicle to beat the group with sticks and throw stones. NBC reporter Matt Bradley and the crew's producer and operator were injured, while Abdullah was treated by the Red Crescent. One producer reported seeing a firearm that was not used. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and spokesperson Doron Spilman condemned the attack, with Netanyahu calling the perpetrators lawbreakers and stating that Israel will not tolerate vigilantism.

Simultaneous violence occurred in the village of Qusra, where settlers reportedly besieged a house and stole equipment. Reports indicate that IDF soldiers were operating in the area during the raid and shot four Palestinians, including two minors. Israeli police have since requested arrest warrants for settlers suspected of involvement in the Qusra attacks following a petition by ten Palestinian residents. The UN humanitarian agency reports that settlers and security forces have killed 76 Palestinians in the West Bank between January 1 and July 24, 2026.

These events occur as Israel moves toward a shift in administrative control. Defense Minister Israel Katz ordered the military to develop a plan to transfer law enforcement competencies in the West Bank to the police. While military officials claim this is to better manage settler arrests, some analysts and reports suggest this move is a step toward the de facto annexation of the territory by blurring the distinction between occupied land and sovereign Israeli territory.
