Italian Government Considers Increasing Ecobonus to 65 Percent

The Italian government is evaluating a return to a 65 percent ecobonus for energy efficiency upgrades in homes. According to reports citing Il Sole 24 Ore, the proposed measure would target window frames, heat pumps, air conditioners, thermal solar systems, solar shading, and thermal insulation. This potential increase would apply to primary residences, while other properties would likely remain at a 36 percent deduction. The current system, established by the 2025 budget, provides a horizontal discount of 50 percent for primary homes and 36 percent for others across the ecobonus, renovation bonus, and sismabonus.

The measure could be funded through a 14 billion euro budget flexibility margin linked to the energy transition. Preliminary estimates suggest that a 15 percentage point increase in deductions could cost approximately half a billion euros over ten years. The government may also consider expanding the scope of eligible works to include electric vehicle charging stations to align with European Union directives on emission reductions.

Separately, reports indicate the government is studying a one time fuel voucher of 100 euros for employees and self employed workers. Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni is expected to meet with majority leaders to finalize the details of this intervention, which could be available between October and December.
