Japan has ordered the evacuation of nearly 260,000 residents in Okinawa and Kagoshima prefectures as Typhoon Dolphin approaches the region. The storm, classified as a Category 1 typhoon, has maximum sustained winds of 144 kph and gusts reaching 198 kph. Authorities in Japan have canceled more than 500 flights, and Toyota has suspended work at nine factories. The Japan Meteorological Agency warned that the storm could cause structural damage and that a linear rain band might trigger flooding. The storm is also affecting the southernmost main island of Kyushu, including Kumamoto prefecture, where 6,700 residents remain in evacuation centers following a magnitude 7.1 earthquake. Residents in those areas are also facing heatstroke risks with temperatures reaching 36 degrees Celsius.
In Taiwan, the Central Weather Administration reported that Typhoon Dolphin was located approximately 1,120 kilometers east of Taipei. The storm is moving west at 17 kph and is expected to pass north of Taiwan before moving into China's Zhejiang province. Taiwan's Maritime and Port Bureau suspended several ferry services to outlying islands, including routes to Matsu and Orchid Island. Several airlines, including Starlux Airlines and EVA Air, canceled or delayed flights between Taiwan and Okinawa.
