The Japanese government is considering allowing North Korean athletes and officials to enter the country for the Aichi Nagoya Asian Games, which are scheduled to take place from September 19 to October 4. While Japan generally bans North Korean nationals from entering as part of sanctions related to nuclear and missile development, the government has previously made exceptions for international sporting events. This includes allowing members of the North Korean women's football team to enter for Paris Olympic qualifiers in February 2024.

A source from the pro Pyongyang General Association of Korean Residents in Japan indicates that the delegation is expected to consist of approximately 180 individuals. If permitted, this would be one of the largest North Korean delegations to ever visit Japan for a sporting event. The delegation is expected to include two Korean residents of Japan who are athletes.
