Japan defeated the United States 63 to 14 on Saturday at Hanazono Rugby Stadium in Osaka Prefecture to secure a place in the Pacific Nations Cup final. The world number 12 ranked Japanese side scored nine tries to two, including an opening try by center Yuya Hirose in the second minute. Japan held a 28 to 0 lead before the 14th ranked United States team scored two unanswered tries. Japan entered the break with a 35 to 14 lead and kept the United States scoreless during the second half. Coach Eddie Jones attributed a mid game lapse in concentration to silly errors. Japan will face defending champions Fiji in the final on September 19 at the Prince Chichibu Memorial Rugby Ground in Tokyo. Fiji advanced to the final after defeating Canada 45 to 29. Mamoru Harada was named player of the match.
