Sports journalist Alex Escobar is planning a gradual return to his work at Globo after being diagnosed with myasthenia gravis, a rare autoimmune disease, and a tumor in his thymus gland. Escobar revealed in an interview with Fantástico that he will initially work behind the scenes and participate in pilot programs to monitor his body's reaction to the routine before returning to the screen. He has requested patience from the public during this transition.

The diagnosis followed an incident during a live World Cup broadcast in New Jersey, United States, where Escobar experienced difficulty speaking and repeating phrases. He noted that he had felt symptoms, such as difficulty chewing, for about two months prior to the trip. While some internet users speculated that he was experiencing mental confusion, Escobar stated he was fully conscious during the episode. Following the broadcast, he was hospitalized for two days. Initial suspicions of a stroke or multiple sclerosis were later discarded by doctors in Brazil.

Myasthenia gravis occurs when the immune system attacks the communication between nerves and muscles, causing muscle weakness. In Escobar's case, the condition was linked to a tumor in the thymus, a gland located in the chest. Medical professionals advised the surgical removal of the tumor. Escobar expressed gratitude for the diagnosis, stating that the symptoms of the autoimmune disease led to the discovery of the tumor.
