Justice Alexandre de Moraes Denies Bolsonaro's Request for Father's Day Visits

Supreme Federal Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes rejected a request on Saturday for former President Jair Bolsonaro to receive visits from his sons, Flávio, Carlos, and Jair Renan, on Father's Day. Bolsonaro is currently serving a house arrest sentence for an attempted coup d'état at his residence in the Jardim Botânico neighborhood of Brasília. The justice cited a previous decision from July 17, 2026, which suspended all visits for 30 days except for medical, physiotherapeutic, and legal professionals. This suspension was triggered after Moraes determined that a handwritten letter from Bolsonaro, read by Flávio on social media, violated the rules of house arrest and the prohibition against using social media directly or through third parties. The defense requested the visits on an exceptional humanitarian and family basis, arguing that the celebration of Father's Day is a singular date that preserves family bonds and would not interfere with the execution of the sentence. The request did not include Eduardo Bolsonaro, who resides in the United States and was sentenced by the STF to four years and two months in prison for efforts to intimidate the judiciary. Flávio Bolsonaro is specifically barred from meeting his father for 90 days, a period that extends past the first round of elections.
