Kim Jong Un Thanks Overseas Troops During North Korea Founding Anniversary

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un expressed special thanks to troops involved in overseas military operations during a ceremony marking the 78th anniversary of the country's founding in Pyongyang. According to the Korean Central News Agency, Kim extended gratitude to commanding officers and soldiers, as well as workers, service personnel, and overseas compatriots' organizations. He emphasized that patriotism and voluntary service are the pillars of the country's development and called on the government and the Workers' Party of Korea to achieve a dynamic advance.

During the event, Kim and other senior officials took an oath of loyalty to the socialist system and the regime while holding red scarves. Kim also met with labor innovators and other meritorious persons for commemorative photos. South Korea estimates that North Korea has sent more than 16,000 troops to Russia since 2024 following a strategic partnership treaty signed with President Vladimir Putin in June 2024. South Korean officials noted that Kim's speech was unusual because it contained no message for the international community and the full text was not released, suggesting a cautious wait and see approach amid external uncertainties.
