Lando Norris extends McLaren contract until at least 2030

Defending Formula One world champion Lando Norris has signed a contract extension with McLaren that will keep him at the team until at least 2030. The agreement includes an option for a multi year extension beyond 2030. Norris, who is 26 years old, joined McLaren's junior programme in 2017 and made his F1 debut with the team in 2019. He delivered McLaren's first drivers' title since 2008 last season, and the team won the constructors' titles in 2024 and 2025.

Norris announced the deal at a friends and families day at the McLaren Technology Centre in Woking. As part of the agreement, the team will gift him one of the MCL39 cars he used to secure his title. Norris stated that he did not consider leaving the team despite advances from other outfits, describing McLaren as his home and a second family. He also noted that his salary is not at the level of Lewis Hamilton or Max Verstappen, though he expressed conflicting views on whether his achievements warrant such a gap.

While the team struggled at the start of the current season due to new regulations, Norris has recently secured back to back wins in Hungary and the Netherlands. He currently sits fourth in the championship, trailing Mercedes driver Kimi Antonelli by 83 points with 11 races remaining. His teammate, Oscar Piastri, also previously extended his contract with the team. Team principal Andrea Stella praised Norris as an exceptional driver who combines natural speed with maturity and consistency.
