President Lee has nominated ruling party lawmaker Kim Seung-won as the new justice minister and minor party lawmaker Yong Hye-in as the new gender equality and family minister. Yong, the 36 year old floor leader of the progressive Basic Income Party, is the first Cabinet nominee born in the 1990s. She entered parliament in 2020 through a liberal proportional representation alliance led by the Democratic Party of Korea and was reelected in 2024. During her time on the Gender Equality and Family Committee, Yong focused on work family balance, protections for victims of violence, and digital sex crimes. Her entry into public life began as a university student when she organized a silent march for the victims of the 2014 Sewol ferry disaster.
