A man died from complications of a wound to his leg after being bitten by a dog on a footpath in West Yorkshire. James Judge, 55, died on 15 August following an incident on an old train line footpath off Blacker Lane in Wakefield. He was taken to Leeds General Infirmary, where he passed away.
Lee Ellis, 55, of Calder Grove, Wakefield, has been charged with manslaughter and being in charge of a dog dangerously out of control causing injury resulting in death. During a first appearance at Bradford Magistrates Court, a solicitor for Mr. Ellis stated that the incident began with an argument regarding right of way. Mr. Ellis is scheduled to appear at Leeds Crown Court on 26 September.
An inquest into the death was opened by acting senior coroner Oliver Longstaff and subsequently adjourned. The coroner stated that the resumption of the inquest depends on the outcome of the criminal proceedings.
