Manipur Publishes Final Electoral Rolls for 60 Assembly Constituencies

The final photo electoral rolls for the 60 assembly constituencies of Manipur were published on Sunday, recording a total of 1,960,620 voters. This total includes 953,350 males, 1,006,962 females, and 308 third gender individuals. The final list shows a net increase of 26,221 electors over the draft roll published on July 5, 2026, which had 1,934,399 electors. During the revision process, 56,871 electors were added and 30,650 were deleted.

The revision involved an extensive verification exercise. Of the 2,093,076 electors recorded before the draft publication, 158,677 forms were not received back and those voters were excluded. Authorities issued notices to 91,178 unmapped electors and 1,130,655 electors with logical discrepancies, such as mismatches in parents' names or age gaps. Following hearings and document examinations, 26,362 electors from the draft roll were marked ineligible.

Center-right framing emphasizes the broader political context, noting that the Census exercise in Manipur has been deferred following demands from civil bodies and the state legislative assembly to update the National Register of Citizens (NRC) first. It highlights that while many parties support this, Kuki-Zo civil bodies have expressed concerns regarding the use of 1951 as the NRC base year.
