- A hatched block means the outlet is affiliated with, or controlled by, a state.
Political lean describes where an outlet sits within the politics of its own country. It is never a position on a single global scale.
Political lean is comparable inside one country and not across them, which is why the bar groups by country first. Publicly funded broadcasters are not marked as state-linked.
The owner of each outlet is listed as a matter of record, not as a judgement about the outlet.
A catastrophic flash flood and mudslide hit the border region between Nepal and Tibet on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, leaving at least 95 people dead in Nepal and causing significant casualties in China. The disaster struck the Rasuwa district of Nepal and Gyirong county in Tibet, washing away entire villages, bridges, and electrical infrastructure along the Bhotekoshi river. In Tibet, Chinese state media reported at least three deaths and 265 people missing at the Gyirong Port border checkpoint, while Chinese President Xi Jinping ordered an all out rescue effort to minimize further loss of life.
Search and rescue operations are ongoing, though efforts have been hampered by high water levels that prevented rescue helicopters from landing in some areas. The Nepal Tourism Board reported that 384 travelers are missing, including 291 foreign nationals. Among the missing are 105 Indians, 33 British citizens, and citizens from the United States, South Korea, Malaysia, and Spain. The Nepali Army and police have been deployed to the region, and Prime Minister Balendra Shah has urged residents along the Bhotekoshi, Trishuli, and Narayani rivers to move to higher ground.
The cause of the flood remains under investigation, with conflicting preliminary reports. Some sources cite a snow and rock landslide or a glacial lake outburst in Tibet, while others mention a magnitude 4.4 earthquake that occurred minutes before the flood hit the border port. Authorities have warned that a second flood may be imminent due to a blockage remaining upstream.
Regional impacts have extended into India, where the Bihar government issued a high alert for bordering districts. Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed solidarity with Nepal and offered humanitarian assistance. The European Union has activated its Copernicus satellite system to help map the affected areas and support rescue operations.
