A catastrophic glacier collapse on August 26 triggered massive flash floods and mudslides across the border region of Nepal and China, leaving at least 919 people dead and thousands missing. According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority, Nepal has recorded 903 deaths and 4,247 missing persons. Chinese authorities reported 16 deaths and 546 missing in Tibet.
