Met Office Issues Yellow Weather Warning for Bank Holiday Weekend

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for heavy showers and thunderstorms across the UK for Saturday. The warning is in effect from midday until 9pm and covers an area stretching from south west England and parts of Wales across the Midlands to the east of England. Some locations may experience 15 to 25 mm of rain in one hour and up to 30 mm within three hours, with hail and lightning listed as additional hazards. The Met Office noted that flooding of some homes and businesses is likely, and that train and car travel may be delayed.

These conditions are expected to impact several major events. Festivalgoers at Reading and Leeds, as well as cricket fans at Lord's in London, are likely to face wet weather. At the Reading festival, attendees and performers have already been seen braving heavy rain and mud. Environment Agency flood alerts are also currently in place for five areas, primarily across the Midlands.

Forecasts for the remainder of the Bank Holiday weekend suggest unsettled conditions. Sunday is expected to bring heavy showers and possible thunderstorms across the UK. By Monday, conditions are predicted to improve in London and parts of the south with sunny intervals and highs of 22C, although rain may persist in Manchester and Scotland.
