Zenyazen Roberto Escobar García, a federal deputy from the governing Morena party, was found dead with a gunshot wound on Friday in the state of Veracruz. His body was discovered inside his vehicle in the community of La Gloria, located in the municipality of Puente Nacional. State Secretary of Government Ricardo Ahued stated that while a firearm was used, the vehicle showed no signs of violence. President Claudia Sheinbaum has requested that the Attorney General's Office (FGR), which has taken over the investigation, provide a report on the progress of the case.
Escobar, 42, represented Veracruz's 16th district and previously served as the state's Secretary of Education under Governor Cuitláhuac García. He held roles on commissions regarding the Navy, Climate Change and Sustainability, and Economy, Trade and Competitiveness.
