The Prosecutor's Office has formally indicted Miguel Quintero Calle, the brother of former Medellín Mayor Daniel Quintero, for alleged corruption involving contracts at the Area Metropolitana del Valle de Aburrá (Amva). The indictment follows three previous postponements and focuses on charges of embezzlement by appropriation and undue interest in the celebration of contracts. These contracts were intended for the delivery of biosecurity kits during the COVID 19 pandemic via the Itagüí Volunteer Fire Department. Prosecutors allege that the contracts were awarded irregularly to favor individuals close to Quintero in exchange for illicit commissions estimated between 15 percent and 20 percent of the total value. Evidence cited by the prosecution includes WhatsApp chats from a group named Amigos, where Quintero allegedly recommended candidates for direct hiring at Amva.
